LO2 : network and interconnection device

Network Devices
is the physical part of the computer, that required for communication and interconnection between the device on a computer network. Example; modem, switch, hub, and repeaters.

Workstation
A workstation (WS) is a computer dedicated to a user or group of users engaged in business or professional work. It includes one or more high-resolution displays and a faster processor than a personal computer (PC). A workstation also has greater multitasking capability because of additional random access memory (RAM), drives and drive capacity. A workstation may also have a higher-speed graphics adapters and more connected peripherals.
The term workstation also has been used to reference a PC or mainframe terminal on a local area network (LAN). These workstations may share network resources with one or more large client computers and network servers.

NIC

known as a network interface card, is an expansion card, it able computer to connect to the network. Found on most computers.

A network card can communicate with each other over the same network using a network switch or if only two computers a direct connection. If computers on your network need to connect to a different network (e.g., the Internet) they must be eventually connected to a router that allows networks to communicate with each other.

how it works?
NIC can communicate with each other over the same network using a network switch. if the computer on the user network needs to connect to a different network example the internet, the user must connect the PC to a router that provides a network to allow communication.

server?

A server is a computer program that provides a service to another computer program.  below is the different type of server.

mail server -

A mail server (also known as a mail transfer agent or MTA, a mail transport agent, a mail router or an Internet mailer) is an application that receives an incoming e-mail from local users (people within the same domain) and remote senders and forwards outgoing e-mail for delivery.

mail server -
is an application that receives an incoming e-mail from local users and remote senders and forwards outgoing e-mail for delivery.

proxy server -
is software that acts as an intermediary between an endpoint device, such as a computer, and another server from which a user or client is requesting a service.

file server -
is a computer responsible for the central storage and management of data files so that other computers on the same network can access them.

web server -
is a program that uses HTTP(Hypertext Transfer Protocol) to serve the files that form Web pages to users, in response to their requests, which are forwarded by their computers' HTTP clients. Dedicated computers and appliances may be referred to as Web servers as well.

Interconnection Device?
allows a single computer to communicate with other computers via a LAN cable or a telephone line, to the large and complex switching devices that interconnect two or more entire networks.

Router
router is hardware device designed to receive, analyze and move incoming packets to another network. It may also be used to convert the packets to another network interface, drop them, and perform other actions relating to a network. It can be wired or wireless.

routers can analyze the data being sent over a network, change how it is packaged, and send it to another network or over a different network. For example, routers are commonly used in home networks to share a single Internet connection between multiple computers.

Switch
switch is a hardware device that filters and forwards network packets allows a connection to be opened or closed. When opened, the switch allows a signal or power to flow through the connection. When closed, the switch stops the flow and breaks the circuit connection.

Wireless Acess Point
commonly known as Wi-Fi or hotspot. WAP is a hardware device or configured node on a local area network (LAN) that allows wireless capable devices and wired networks to connect through a wireless standard, including Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
